The three-winged palace was established in the years 1767-1769 and served the duches-mother Anna Amalia as widow-dwelling since 1775. Noble ones and civil itellectual ones met here for a sociable round, the so-called "Tafelrunde".
Today furniture, music instruments, and articles of art show the housing traditon of the yard aristocracy in the classical Weimar.

It is one of the eldest citizen houses in Weimar.
Its grounds with front and rear house, gallery-occupied side-buildings, stair tower, yard, well, garden and the garden pavillion reflects the picture of the years about 1825.
Some replicated rooms in the first floor of the front house show the historical way of life of wealthy citizens in the classical and the after-classical time.

The artist predominantly spent the summer months in his dwelling, the former market garden, in the time between 1869-1886. The remaining time he swinged between Rome and Budapest.
Living-, working-, sleeping-, and dining-room are accessible for the visitor. They are equipped with personal articles and souvenirs of him.
Both portraits, which show Liszt in different epochs of life , and correspondences with musicians and composers, which wrote European music history, round off the impessing picture about living and working of the composer .
